The Cat’s Pajama’s, Philadelphia’s go- to literacy-centric rock band, has released their fourth album, “Backseat Driver” that is sure to delight every member of the family.
From their website, “With juice box jams and car seat choreography, this is the album that will get everyone in the car moving (and you'll get there in record time)! Songs for wiggling, singing along, and playing over and over.”
I recently received a copy of “Backseat Driver” for review and it has quickly become a family favorite. There are so many great songs that it’s impossible to pick a favorite song, but I find myself humming “Driving in My Car” and “Alphabet Soup” repeatedly. At the moment, the kids are singing “Alphabet Soup” and dancing all over the place as I write this. And the album isn’t playing at the moment. A quick side note; my 5-year-old just came in to ask if we could write a thank-you note to the Cats for the “really great music and for writing such fun songs”. I couldn’t have said it better myself.
Known and loved by thousands of families since 1995, The Cat’s Pajamas is now winning over a second generation of fans. At the core of the band’s reputation is lead singer Janet Schreiner, whose “ability to whip kids into a pleasurable frenzy places her among the foremost performers in the children’s music genre” (Patrick Brogan, artistic director of Musikfest).
From the band’s beginnings as a duo, The Cat’s Pajamas has grown by leaps and bounds. The Cat’s Pajamas’ performances and CDs have made their way into classrooms and libraries all over the country. In recent years, the band has grown to include more and more of Philly’s best working musicians (whose ages span 40 years!).
