Red, White & Blue Strawberries

By Christina Stephenson, Macaroni Kid Pittsburgh East July 2, 2012

I decided to try to make something fun, cute and semi-healthy for the 4th. Chocolate covered strawberries! Well I did say sort of healthy! It is a fruit afterall under that chocolate.

Here is what you need:

Strawberries (washed and dried) ***Very important that they are dry!!!***

White Chocolate (I used chips...you can use melts too!)

Blue Sugar

1st step: Wash strawberries and let completely dry. This is very important because you do not want to get moisture in your chocolate or it will ruin it and make it very difficult to work with because it will start to get chunky.

2nd step: Melt chocolate-you can either do this in microwave or in double broiler (or get creative if you don't have one!) You can use a small pot with a glass mixing bowl over top. If you use microwave melt in 20-30 second intervals. If you do on stove....be sure you don't let moisture (steam) get into the chocolate!

3rd step: Dip strawberries in chocolate so a little of the red strawberry is showing then roll bottom portion in blue sugar dust to have a lovely, delicious Red, White and Blue strawberry!

*You can get creative and do other variations of this as well. My kids like regular chocolate so we did some with that and used other festive sprinkles, decorations & coconut!

These will be sure to be a crowd pleaser and get many Ooohhhhsss and Aaahhhhhssss!

ENJOY!
